We
“Local Democracy Agency” foundation was established in 2012 and registered in April, 2013 in Gyumri, Armenia at the initiative of European Association for Local Democracy/ALDA/ and Congress of Regional and Local Authorities of Council of Europe. European Association for Local Democracy /ALDA/ is a key stakeholder in the field of local democracy, active citizenship, and cooperation between local authorities and civil society in Europe, its neighbourhood, and all around the World, mainly acting through participative methods and decentralised cooperation.
“Local Democracy Agency” foundation in Armenia is a non-profit making organization with the goal to promote citizens participation and good governance at the local level. Among its main priorities are to foster the capacities of local authorities and civil society in citizens’ participation, empower youth and women in environmental, democratic and community development initiatives, support participative practices in the development of local and sustainable tourism, reinforce regional cooperation. Furthermore, the cooperation with the French Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, European commission, USAID as a subcontractor, the Council of Europe, CSF of Eastern Partnership, Black Sea NGO Forum, Romanian FOND, UNDP, American “Paros” foundation and the European stakeholders promoted the implementation of many initiatives in the field of local democracy and youth participative decision-making and empowerment and nature protection.
Mission
“Local Democracy Agency” foundation in Armenia is developing local democracy by strengthening civil society and fostering good governance in local communities of Armenia. In cooperation with other European countries and local partners LDA Armenia is contributing to improvement of quality of life and development of active citizenship by cooperation, education and advocacy.
Vision
Transparent and accountable local governments, strong and participatory civil society and active citizens. Respect of human rights and individual freedoms, especially equal economical and social conditions for all citizens of Armenia.
